What Promptly collects, who else touches it, how long it is kept, and how to get rid of it.

Promptly AI LLC, a California limited liability company, is the data controller for the information described here. Reach us at support@usepromptly.app.

1.The short version

You can use Promptly without giving us your name or your email. Your footage is uploaded so it can be edited, and it is sent to the transcription and AI services that do the editing. We do not sell your data, we do not use your videos to train AI models, and we do not run advertising on you. You can delete everything from the account screen.

2.Your anonymous account

The first time you open Promptly, the app creates an anonymous account for you. It has no name and no email — just an identifier held on your device and on our server, so your videos and your plan have somewhere to live.

If you later add an email address, it is linked to that same account. You do not get a second account, and adding an email does not retroactively attach your identity to anything you made before — it attaches it to the account those things were always on.

3.What we collect

Everything Promptly records about you
Data Why
Account identifier To keep your videos, chats and plan together. Created anonymously at first launch.
Email address Only if you add one — to sign you in on another device and to restore a purchase.
Device identifier A random id generated by the app. Used to stop one device creating unlimited accounts and to stop referral rewards being farmed. It is not Apple's advertising identifier and we do not use it for advertising.
Video uploads The footage you choose. Uploaded so it can be edited.
Transcripts Generated from your footage's audio. Used to place cuts and captions.
Prompts and chat What you type to describe an edit, and the replies.
Rendered videos The finished result, kept in your library so you can watch and share it.
Usage events Which screens you open and which actions you take, so we can see where the app fails people.
Crash and error diagnostics Stack traces and device model when something breaks.
Subscription state Which plan you hold and whether it is active. We never see your card details.

We do not collect your contacts, your photo library beyond the clips you pick, your precise location, or your health data.

4.What happens to your video

When you render a video, it takes this path:

Your footage is not published anywhere by us, is not shown to other users, and is not used to train any model. Links to a finished render are unguessable but not secret — anyone you send one to can open it.

5.Who processes it

These are the companies that handle Promptly data on our behalf. Each is bound by its own agreement with us and may only use the data to provide its service.

Sub-processors
Processor What it handles
Supabase Accounts, sign-in, and the database holding your jobs, chats and profile.
Amazon Web Services Storage of uploads and renders (S3) and delivery of finished videos (CloudFront).
Modal The GPU workers that render your video.
Deepgram Speech-to-text on your footage's audio.
Anthropic The AI that reads the transcript, plans the edit and writes captions and chat replies.
RevenueCat Subscription state, and web checkout.
Stripe Card processing for web purchases, through RevenueCat.
Apple In-app purchases and their receipts.
PostHog Product analytics and session replay.
Sentry Crash and error diagnostics.
Render Hosting for our API and this website.

These providers operate in the United States and elsewhere, so using Promptly involves transferring your data internationally.

6.Analytics and diagnostics

We record which screens you open and which actions you take — a render started, a paywall shown, an upload that failed — against your account identifier. We use it to find where the app is losing or failing people. Automatic screen-view capture is switched off; the app sends only the specific events it means to send.

Crash reports include a stack trace, the app version and the device model. They do not include your footage.

7.Session replay

A small random sample of app sessions is recorded as a replay — currently 5% — so we can watch where the interface goes wrong. Text you type is masked, and images and video frames are masked, so a replay shows the shape of the screen rather than its content.

Whether a given session is recorded is decided at random on your device when the session starts. If you would rather never be recorded, write to us and we will exclude your account.

8.Payments

We never see or store your card number. Purchases made in the app are handled by Apple; web purchases are handled by RevenueCat and processed by Stripe. What reaches us is the fact of a purchase, which plan it is for, and whether it is still active.

9.How long we keep it

Retention
Data Kept
Uploads and renders Until you delete the video, or delete your account.
Chats and transcripts Until you delete your account.
Account record Until you delete your account.
Usage events Until you delete your account, and in PostHog under its own retention period.
Crash diagnostics Under Sentry's retention period. Not deleted by account deletion.
Purchase records Kept by Apple, RevenueCat and Stripe as long as their own tax and accounting rules require.

10.Deleting your data

Delete account on the account screen removes, in one go:

It is immediate and cannot be undone. Save anything you want to keep first. Crash diagnostics already sent to Sentry, and purchase records held by Apple, RevenueCat or Stripe, are outside that deletion — write to us if you need those removed too and we will pass the request on.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it first, as described in the Terms.

11.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to some of the ways we use it. Write to support@usepromptly.app and we will act on it.

If you use Promptly anonymously and have never added an email, we cannot verify that an account is yours, so we may be unable to act on a request about it from outside the app. Deletion from inside the app always works.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context advertising.

12.Children

Promptly is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used Promptly, write to us and we will delete the account.

13.Changes

We will update this page when what we collect or who processes it changes, and update the date at the top. Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect.

14.Contact

Privacy questions, data requests, or a request to be excluded from session replay: support@usepromptly.app.
